On Jumpstart and Flash archives Even though a flash archive can be a full copy of your file system don't be tempted to use Solaris 8 to install a Solaris 9 flash archive image. This is NOT saying that the OE on your jumpstart server cannot be Solaris 8. It just means that you need to load the Solaris 9 media on your jumpstart server with the setup_install_server script from the Solaris 9 media and use the add_install_client script from the Solaris9/Tools directory if you are planning on jumpstarting a server using a flash archive that was created from a server running Solaris 9. In general, when the net boot starts make sure that the OE version (Solaris 8 or Solaris 9) that shows up in the boot banner matches the OE version that you are trying to install on the server. This is critical because the cleanup that the suninstall script does after loading the software depends on which version of Solaris is being installed (the location of system files may change from version to version).
